Good for Me

A curriculum, created with generous support from the Walmart Foundation, is the basis of a key preschool program. Its purpose is to promote culturally relevant healthy nutrition and fitness practices among black families with young children. Good for Me engages children 3 – 5 in healthy eating and physical activity by introducing them to a diverse range of fruits and vegetables, hands-on activities and active play. All while reinforcing the language and the letters of the alphabet.

The Good for Me curriculum has been approved by PA Keys. PQAS training hrs. can be attained if attending the training. Additional points are earned for STAR 2 and STAR 3 if using the curriculum.

Developed by NBCDI in 2017

The Read to Succeed program is designed to promote early literacy and language development by supporting families with young children in establishing home libraries with culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate children’s books and supplementary resources.

Research shows that children often need to see themselves in books to become strong readers. When children see characters that reflect their own identity in the books they read, they feel validated, gaining a strong sense of confidence and pride In themselves, their experiences and their culture. We aggressively see books written by African American authors.

We partner with Discovery Toys for attain reflective toys and First Book Marketplace for quality and inclusive books and reasonable price.

Working with young children requires knowledge of child growth and development, as well as the skills to communicate effectively with children and families from diverse backgrounds.

High quality early childhood education programs are essential for positive child outcomes and that education and training for teachers are important factors in providing high quality early childhood education. Addressing disparities in academic outcomes that often plaque children of color, we must see that they have well-trained and highly – educated staff. For that reason, BCDI Philadelphia & Vicinity is a state approved training entity for CDA 2.0. The classes are offered annually each year.

Stay tuned for our upcoming Initiative in partnership with the Pritzker Foundation “Clean Air” focused on PN – 4. Our objectives are:

  • 1) children and families learn keeping water clean
  • 2) learn to value the natural water in the world
  • 3) learn not waste water
  • 4)improve their vocabulary
